Merrie Ribbons Khalif is a Gelding who was born a chestnut color (red) but must be carrying the grey modifier because he started changing color as soon as he was born. We met him when he was 5, fell in love and started our mini horse collection.
Khalif is really serious about his winter coat so then we call him "Puffball." He also brings back some color during the winter-- almost a peachy shade.
Here his head was trimmed so the contrast between his winter coat and summer coat is very distinct. We often clip him in the Spring because Arizona gets hot faster that he sheds his coat. It looks like we are shearing a sheep.
Merrie Ribbons Indigo Warrior traveled along to our house (we lived north of Phoenix then) to "keep Khalif company" and of course their plan worked and we fell in love with him.
He is a stallion but is such a sweetheart that two novice horse people have had no trouble with him. He is quite a talker and nickers when someone gets close to him.
Indigo is a rabicano roan Rabicano is a specific
pattern of roaning that includes a "skunk tail"
(white hairs at the top of his tail), roaning at the
flanks and
sometimes white between the hind
legs and awhite belly spot
He also has another rare mark - a white dorsal stripe! His dorsal stripe is most obvious during winter while the other markings show more during the summer.
Both Indigo and Khalif have been trained to drive. Here is Khalif with my father at the reins.
