Inkhada Miniature Horse RanchThe BoysText Box: Both Indigo and Khalif have been trained to drive. Here is Khalif with my father at the reins. Below he is pulling a friend who had never either ridden or driven a horse before! (He did make the remark that he thought horses would be taller ….) Both horses love to drive and complain loudly if we take just one of them out.
Text Box: Indigo is a rabicano roan. Rabicano is a specific pattern of roaning that includes a “skunk tail” (white hairs at the top of his tail), roaning at the flanks (see above) and sometimes white between the hind legs and a white belly spot.
Text Box: Merrie Ribbons Indigo Warrior traveled along to our house (we lived north of Phoenix then, in Desert Hills) to “keep Khalif company” and of course, the plan worked and we fell in love with him.
Text Box: Merrie Ribbons Khalif is a gelding who was born a chestnut color (red) but must be carrying the grey modifier because he started changing color as soon as he was born. We met him when he was 5, fell in love and started our mini horse collection.
Text Box: Khalif is really serious about his winter coat, so then we call him “Puffball.” He also brings back some color during the winter—almost a peachy shade.
Text Box: Here his head was trimmed so the contrast between his winter coat and summer coat is very distinct. We often clip him in the Spring because Arizona gets hot faster than he sheds his coat. It looks like we are shearing a sheep.
Text Box: He is a stallion but is such a sweetheart that two novice horse people have had no trouble with him. He is quite a talker and nickers when someone gets close to him. He also lets us know –LOUDLY - when he thinks it is dinner time.
Text Box: He also has another rare mark—a white dorsal stripe! This is why he sometimes gets called “Stinky”. His dorsal stripe is most obvious during winter while the other markings show more during the summer.
